In Cheraw, the tree was planted at the home of Alan Carlson in memory of his wife who passed away from cancer this year. 

When asked what the tree planting meant to him, Carlson said, “It means that people care.  That’s important.”

Wannamaker Drug also planted a tree in Chesterfield at Edwards Elementary in honor of four year old Finley Stevens who has battled cancer.

“We appreciate Wannamaker Drug and the community being so supportive of Finley,” said Brent Stevens, Finley’s father.  “It says a lot about a community when they come together and support one of their own. “ 

Finley’s mother, Dayna said,  “Finley is excited that the tree is planted at the school he will be going to one day and the school I teach at.”

Wannamaker Drug places an artificial tree in their store window every October that is decorated with the names of cancer victims and survivors. This year over 140 names were placed on the tree.  Every year a tree is planted in honor and memory of those individuals.

“We feel this is a good way to meet the needs of our many customers who live outside of the Cheraw area as well as gain new ones,” said HME Supervisor Lisa Bridges, RN. “We’ll offer the same services and full line of medical equipment (in Chesterfield) as we do in Cheraw. It will just be easier for customers on that side of the county, and our deliveries will be quicker.”

 Many of the services that are available at Wannamaker Drug’s Cheraw store will also be offered at the Chesterfield location including: free local deliveries on prescriptions and medical equipment, yearly flu shot clinics, informative newsletters and more.  For added convenience, two drive through windows will be available: one to drop-off prescriptions and one to pick-up prescriptions.

 “Our goal in Chesterfield will be the same as it is in Cheraw, to be a family-oriented business that goes the extra mile to meet the needs of our customers,” Owner Chris Bridges said. “We aim to become involved in the activities and programs that make Chesterfield such a quaint, charming town.”

 The Chesterfield branch will be located at 107 West Boulevard, formally Substation II, and Chesterfield native Tara Vick will be the Pharmacist In Charge. A 1993 graduate of Chesterfield High School, Tara earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. Licensed in South and North Carolina, Tara has 11 years of pharmacy experience in retail, hospital and long-term care.

  “My prayer has always been to work in Chesterfield because this is my home,” Tara said. “I enjoy helping people, and I am very excited about what Wannamaker Drug can provide for our community. I look forward to joining the Wannamaker family and assisting you with any of your pharmacy needs.”

 A grand opening barbecue is being planned for October 24^th.  The day will also include a cake baking competition, children’s games, and a chance to meet the pharmacist and staff.

Cathy is a Pharmacy Sales Associate at Wannamaker Drug. She is responsible for customer purchases, answering phone calls, and preparing the medications for delivery, but perhaps she is best known for entertaining the customers while they are in the store. “Cathy’s laugh can be heard throughout the store as she and the customers have fun.” 

When the store replaced its cash register with a new system, Cathy helped to train and show other employees how to use it. “Cathy is a patient and thorough teacher.  She makes it easy to learn the new system.”
